Reya in Opus Musical Academy!

Saturdays @ OPUS Musical Academy!

Every Saturday we will be sending her to Opus Music Academy ~ the link to web page (http://www.opusmusical.com/). This academy is located in Bandar Sunway. Her lesson is for only half and hour.

She has been attending Musical for babies since 1 and half years old and Musical for Toddlers since 2 years old. We noticed that she can learn fast when associated with music and movements. She has also improved a lot on her gross and motor coordination. Every Saturday she will be eagerly looking forward for her favourite Teacher Esther's class.

The only things which she reluctant to do is making friends ( aiyooo this is the most difficult part)..probably too early for her.. Mommies out there who can give ideas.. please let me know how to teach her to make friends and not so clingy to mommy... :-(

Cheers!!

Grolier

While i was thinking on what to add on for Reya's homeschooling activities, i remembered coming across of a girl who were promoting Grolier products in Giant Kinrara while shopping for our grocery. Back than Reya was just one and half years old. i were still thinking and weighing the benefit and efficiency of the product. Recently when i'm back to mom's (in law) house in Butterworth i realise my niece were having the same products and enjoy using it.

The Talking English which i saw was interactive and creative way to teach childrens and toddlers on basic english.

I decided to give this cool series of learning materials for Reya a try and contacted Grolier and have package as below:

I Wonder Why Series ( comes with 12 books and reader pen)
Fun Thinker - 10 books with 1 match frame
Words,Words, Words -  4 Volumes- (Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs/Adjectives, Antonyms)
Primo Logico
Junior Dictionary (Free)
Book Rack (Free)
Raise Your Child's Self Esteem (Free)

Yes its definitely expensive.. but when it comes to education we were thinking nothing else more important rather than giving our little one a good head start..
Reya is fast learner but get bored quite fast. She really does enjoy doing the fun Thinker Series at the moment. We are not being too pushy and lets her choose the activity of the day.

Reya's P & L (Play and Learn) Corner

We have started to create Reya's play and learning corner by adding in play items and more educational toys. According to some studies done previously by Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg and published in American Academy of Pediatricians Journal, Pediatrics (January 2007)(www.aap.org/pressroom/playfinal.pdf), the importance of play are as follows:

  • allowing kids to use their creativity and develop their imagination, dexterity, and other strengths
  • encouraging kids to interact with the world around them
  • helping kids conquer their fears and build their confidence
  • teaching kids to work in groups, so they learn to share and resolve conflicts
  • helping kids practice decision making skills
  • having fun

Homeschooling and Early Learning

From the day i held Reya in my arms i knew that she is everything and to give out the fullest to her (love her lots; indescribably). Since she is a real fire ball and full of energy its quite a task to keep her focus and to sit for activity sessions. She is a smart baby and her level of curiosity is very high. I try my best to spend quality time with her whenever i can and cultivate interest on  reading, writing and other gross motor and co-ordinations skills.

I have decided to proceed in teaching her (homeschooling) prior to sending her to Kindergarten. Usually i'll let her to choose her activity (colors/numbers/alphabets).

She is 2 years and 4 months old now and her progress so far:

1) Able to say A-Z by imitating and A-F on her own
2) Talk full sentence..."ma i want this and that"; "my name is reyashini'..so on.
3) Able to identify animals (Farm and wild animals). She loves anything involving animals.

She is yet to identify colors and shapes. we are working on that as well. Will keep updating her progress.
This weekend we plan to teach her using TOT (focusing letter B), learning on kangaroos (Grolier) and fun thinkers to develop her thinking skills and IQ.

I will post more about Grolier in my next post.

Cheers.

Reya's Mom!

yes this is my lil cheeky girl.. so enthusiastic on her new found skill for building tall blocks. She has improved a lot on her motor skills. (yet we are still working on it) When ask her what is this about; she says robot!!

Hubs and I are creating a play and learn area for her in our small cutie house. we are still adding her corner by adding on play tent, stickers and lots of books and toys..

Montessorri at home

Reya is 2 years and 4 months now. Day care by grandparents don't really give her much exposure to learning and feed her curiosity. She is a real fire ball (dragon baby) and constantly moving around. She is such an active baby and to get her focus on a story book or activities will only takes minutes.

"The ability to focus is a crucial skill for all toddlers. It is a skill he will rely on throughout his childhood, particularly as he enters preschool and the classroom. It is essential for interacting with parents, siblings, other toddlers and, later in his development, teachers and other people he encounters in the larger community. Nearly all toddlers can learn focus with the help of their parents."

Now i'm searching and reading lots about developing Montessori at home..so to keep her occupied and prepare her to pre-school environment..
